Two charged over Mercedes chase

A man and woman have been charged after allegedly stealing a Mercedes Benz and leading police in a high-speed chase through Geraldton on Friday.

Police said they spotted the car about 4.40pm and tried to stop the driver, who allegedly accelerated away.

Police allegedly chased the car through several Geraldton suburbs before road spikes were used to deflate one of the car's tyres.The occupants then allegedly abandoned the car on a bush track at the end of Carter Street, Rangeway, and fled into bushland.

Two people were arrested a short time later.

A 33-year-old Goomalling man has been charged with car theft, reckless driving, inherently dangerous (to escape pursuit by police), failing to stop (circumstances of aggravation) and having no authority to drive.

A 37-year-old Goomalling woman has been charged aggravated burglary and commit, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and two counts of car theft.
