B52s banish Demons to maintain grip atop Geraldton water polo ladder as women slay Serpents
Tensions and skill levels were high in the weekend’s water polo action as B52s A-grade men’s side held on to the top of the ladder with a narrow 8-7 victory against the Demons.
A three-goal haul from Demons in the final quarter was not quite enough to overturn the dominant B52s side who maintain their unbeaten streak.
Kurt Tunbridge was a standout once more in the B52s team adding three to his already impressive season tally. Nick Pead got the early lead for the side, scoring two in the first half of the game.
Ben Vittino had three for the Demons with Bruce MacDonald scoring two and setting up a lot of attacking play but they came up just short.
Rats played the composite Country Week side this round, with the Rats side going down 10-4.
Tunbridge was again a standout for the composite side scoring three. Tom Manuel also played a great game, pushing forward into the Rats half, and scoring two goals of his own.
In the A-grade women’s games, B52s continued their charge with a 20-1 win against a struggling Serpents side.
Tenielle Hawke was once again on fire scoring four goals and setting up her teammates with half a dozen more.
Abbey Benham also proved a force to be reckoned with, with four of her own and Isla Mulligan managing a hattrick.
In the other A-grade women’s game, Demons continued their impressive form against an unlucky Rats side.
Demons won 5-4 with both sides equal to the task, taking it in turns to score goals until Demons narrowly pipped the Rats to victory.
Trixie Kerr once again provided great covering play and made plenty of attacking options for her teammates.
Selina Kiddle played a great game in goal for the Rats, ensuring the Demons never managed to get more than a goal or two ahead.
Men’s B-grade games saw Demons taking on Rats and B52s Relics in the derby with the B52s side.
Demons beat the Rats finished 9-5, with Atten Mason getting two goals from open play and a penalty for the Demons.
B52s Relics fell to a narrow defeat 7-8 to their B52s counterparts with Jack Deschamp scoring twice for the B52s side.
In women’s B-grade Rats beat the Serpents side 9 to 4 with Sophia and Milly Kalajzich scoring five between them for Rats.
B52s women put eight past Demons who managed four of their own.
The scores were level on 3-3 early in the game, until B52s came alive and put another five past the Demons defence.
