CMCFL round 13: Cervantes on a roll with 54-point win over Jurien Bay while Lancelin avoid upset at home

Cervantes are back in winning form after the side took down Jurien Bay 13.17 (95) to 6.5 (41) on Saturday.

In the third matchup between the two rivals, the Tiger Sharks proved too good in the contest at Cervantes.

The second quarter is where the match was won, with Cervantes putting through 3.4 while keeping the Bulldogs scoreless.

Jurien started to chase in the second half, but it came too late while Cervantes didn’t slow down their scoring assault. Closing out a 54-point victory.

Isaac Devitt-Boyd was the match winner for the Tiger Sharks, kicking five goals over Jurien Bay and shooting himself up to equal first in the goal kicking list. Tied with Dandaragan’s Campbell Putland with 31 on the season.

While Rhys Murray and Cam Somerville led the Bulldogs in scoring with a pair of goals each.

The Tiger Sharks have won four of their last five and seem to have shaken off their slump after starting the season 2-3.

With just two games left in the season, Cervantes are still in the hunt for a top two finish as they trail Jurien Bay by just four points on the ladder.

The home sides seemed to have the advantage on the weekend with Lancelin Ledge Point getting up over Moora 15.12 (102) to 8.12 (60) in their own backyard.

The Pirates took a commanding lead early, going up 4.6 (30) to 1.2 (8) in the first quarter over the wooden spooners.

Moora did not roll over in the second term, with the Mavericks charging to take a four-point lead at the main break, with the scores sitting at 4.10 (34) to 5.8 (38).

As the side looked a chance to take their first points this season, Lancelin put the hammer down in the second half, allowing just 0.1 in the third quarter while putting through 8.2 of their own.

From there the game was out of hand for Moora, as the Pirates escaped a home upset with their 42-point win.

Four goals from David Hussey and three from Kade Screaigh was the difference for Lancelin, while the Mavericks’ Blair Humphry booted three during the loss.

Round 14 will be an important one for ladder positioning, with an in-form Cervantes hosting the top contenders Dandaragan.

The winless Moora play their final game for the season and have one last chance to avoid going 0-12 when they play Jurien Bay at home.

The Bulldogs saw success in the reserves going up 9.4 (58) to 3.1 (19) over the Tiger Sharks, while Lancelin got through with a tight 7.6 (48) to 6.5 (41) win over Moora.

The Mavericks shined in the hockey, getting up over the Pirates 6-0 and Cervantes defeated Jurien Bay 6-1.

In the A-grade netball, Jurien Bay were the victors over Cervantes in the 48-29 contest and Lancelin proved too good for Moora, with a 47-23 win.
