Four Mid West players have been rewarded for their efforts in the recent country championships with selection in the WA State County’s Men’s Team.

The side will be in action this weekend when they host South Australia in the State Country Football Cup at Optus Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

WA are out to snatch back the cup they lost last year in Adelaide and New Holland WA State Country Coach Kane Benson has selected experienced players to captain the side.

A new inclusion to the team in 2023 is Rhys Waters (Jurien Bay) who won the division 2 best-and-fairest Bud Byfield Medal after captaining Central Midlands Coastal to a third-place finish.

Jacob Green (Cervantes) also made the cut fresh off his six goals on the weekend.

Coach Kane Benson was confident the side could reclaim the cup which they lost in Adelaide last year.

“We’ve chosen broadly across the leagues with the inclusion of some new players along with half who are backing up from last year,” Benson said.

The State Country Football Cup will feature as a curtain-raiser to Fremantle versus Sydney on Saturday, with bouncedown at 2.50pm and can be live-streamed on Streamer.
