From the grass of the Geraldton Tennis Club to lifting an Australian Open title, one of the city’s local tennis clubs will say they had a hand in Jason Kubler’s success.

Wildcard entry Kubler and Rinky Hijikata ensured an Australian Open trophy remained in home hands, storming to a shock straight-sets win in the men’s doubles final.

But in 2018 Kubler was lifting another trophy on the courts of the Geraldton Tennis Club where he won the Easter Open.

“Obviously, the Geraldton Easter Tournament is a springboard for success,” the club said in a tongue-in-cheek post.

“The Geraldton Tennis Club congratulates Jason & Rinky on their exceptional win at the Australian Open.”

The Easter Open, which will be played on 23 grass courts, starts on Good Friday and goes until Easter Monday.
