Pumas roar in Geraldton top division boys & girls basketball

Pumas won in both the girls’ and boys’ top divisions of Geraldton junior basketball to hang on to the No. 1 spot on both ladders.

They won 47-29 against Dongara in the boys’ under-18 division one.

Geraldton Buccaneers Tom Dobson and Harry Evans were among the players who stood out.

Pumas are top by four points in the boys, with Chapman Valley holding on to second with a convincing with of their own, 55-32 against Olympians.

In the girls, Pumas extended their lead over Trades to six points with a 63-30 win, although Trades hung on to second, staying four points ahead of Chapman Valley Maroon.

Valley maintained the gap to fourth-placed Olympians at two points with a 38-30 win over the Octopuses.

In the men’s division one, first and fourth are due to play on Wednesday as Pumas face Stateside.

Second-placed Olympians play Hawks, in sixth, in the other game.

Third-placed Chapman Valley were due to play fifth-placed Trades on Tuesday night.

Pumas and Olympians both had solid wins last Thursday.

Pumas beat Chapman Valley by 12 points, 78-66.

Olympians had an even bigger margin, winning 91-73 against Trades.

Stateside beat Hawks 93-81 last Tuesday.

In the women’s, top side Stateside were due to play Pumas on Monday night.

Second-placed Trades were due to play Chapman Valley, in fourth spot, in the other fixture.

Last Monday, Stateside beat Chapman Valley by a massive 40 points.

They won 66-26.

Pumas just managed to squeak past Trades.

They won 51-50.

That was enough to reshuffle the table, with Stateside and Trades swapping places at the top.

The top three are tied on 16 points each, showing how competitive the division is.

Stateside went into this round ahead of Trades only on the narrowest of percentage margins, with a weaker attack but a better defence.
