Dust off your dancing boots and jewels for Darkan’s black-tie charity ball — a night filled with lights, gowns, food and fundraising to support rural communities as they face increasing hardship.

A group of six young women have arranged Darkan’s Diamond And Dust Ball to lift the spirits of those in rural communities and provide a fundraising opportunity for local organisations at Darkan Town Hall on July 19.

Event organiser Alanah Boxall said she thought of the idea after seeing all the suffering regional towns were going through.

“Farmers, shearers, the school, everybody in the community is having a really tough time,” she said.

“The event is a way to get everybody together, to catch up in a lighthearted way to promote positive mental health while helping support the community.

“Sheepfest granted us $2000 as a kickstarter, and the rest has been off our own backs.”

A live auction selling items contributed by community groups and charities such as the Country Women’s Association of WA and Darkan’s St John sub-centre will raiser funds for the involved groups, as the proceeds from the items will be returned to them.

All profits from a separate silent auction, ticket sales, and a raffle will be donated to Rural Aid.

Ms Boxall said Rural Aid was chosen because it encompassed all forms of support for the rural community, from mental health to financial advice.

The ball’s all-inclusive ticket serves a complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival, canapes and dinner, with live music by rural band Bale Out from Lake Grace for the beau and belle of the ball to dance to.

Tickets are on sale now at www.trybooking.com/events/landing.
