WA Election 2025: The Nationals WA’s candidate for Roe Peter Rundle on housing and cost-of-living crisis

Why are you the right person for this job? I’ve been the Member for Roe for the past eight years. I live in the electorate, have raised my family here, and know I am the right person for the job. I understand local issues, am connected to our communities and represent the people of Roe in Parliament. Labor’s poor decisions are having an impact on our regional communities; live sheep export ban, locking up our coastlines, schools in disrepair, regional housing in crisis, attacks on law-abiding firearms owners and threatening private property rights. I am here to make the difference and fix the mess left by eight years of Labor. What is the most pressing issue facing people in Roe right now? Housing and cost-of-living. Access to affordable housing is directly affecting economic growth, critical service delivery and livability in our regional towns. The shortage of housing affects our schools, health centres, businesses, agricultural sector and more. Social housing shortages especially during a cost-of-living crisis mean there are more people without a home. The lack of Government Regional Officer Housing affects worker attraction and retention, across our schools and health sector. Without safe, affordable and appropriate housing, our towns cannot accommodate critical workers. This changes business, social and economic decisions with immediate flow-on effects through our communities. How much money has your party committed to spend in Roe if elected? What are the three biggest projects? If elected, The Nationals WA commitments to the Roe electorate include: What is your 10-year vision for the future of Roe? What do you love about living here? I love the diversity of this electorate. Whether it’s tourism, great beaches and the port in Esperance or the small business sector and farming enterprises across the electorate of Roe. I love being part of communities and playing a role in helping out our not-for-profits and sporting clubs throughout the electorate. Also in my shadow education minister role, I have been able to help many families with school bus issues and school facilities. It’s a privilege to serve the constituents of Roe over an area of 120,000 square kilometres.
