Queensland's flood-hit areas are bracing for more rain with thunderstorms predicted to hit by Tuesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there have been isolated showers in southern parts of the state that have already been inundated, with floodwaters easing in border town Goondiwindi.

However in the next 24 hours thunderstorms are set to strike the central Queensland area where Theodore is battling major flooding as well as towns downstream from Goondiwindi in the south-west.

Floodwaters are also rising in another area of concern, the Condamine River near the township of Condamine, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

"In terms of rainfall today there is likely to be showers mostly around the Maranoa (south-west) district but it is probably not going to affect catchments," BOM meteorologist Helen Kirkup told AAP.

"Tomorrow in the Maranoa and Western Downs districts there might be a bit more and it could be heavy falls.

"I think the next day of concern is Wednesday when we get more rain in that Darling Downs-Granite Belt area."

Water levels are easing at Goondiwindi after it experienced its biggest flood in a decade, with the Macintyre River peaking at 10.43 metres on Saturday.

It eased to 9.28m on Monday and was set to fall below the major flood level of 8.50m by the evening.

But major flooding is likely downstream at Talwood on the Weir River, with flood levels expected to rise close to its 1998 flood peak of 4.36m on Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to hit the border towns from Tuesday which the Bureau said may cause "renewed river level rises and areas of renewed flooding from mid-week".

Along the Dawson River in central Queensland, major flooding is occurring at Theodore and Baralaba.

Thunderstorms are also set to hit the area from Tuesday.

Flood levels are expected to peak at 12.20m overnight at Theodore while at Baralaba the Dawson River has exceeded 9m and is expected to continue rising through to Tuesday.

Along the Condamine River in the Western Downs region, major flooding is continuing between Ranges Bridge and the Condamine township.

Levels at Condamine are expected to rise to 12.10m overnight, exceeding the 2013 peak of 11.7m.

Along the Balonne River major flooding is rising at Warkon (9m levels) and Surat (10m).

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services says there was one swift water rescue on Sunday morning at Cecil Plains on the Darling Downs after a vehicle was swept into floodwaters.
