Doctor pleads not guilty to murdering husband

A doctor accused of murdering her husband in Geraldton last year will be tried before a Supreme Court jury after today pleading not guilty.

Chamari Liyanage, 34, faced Stirling Gardens Magistrate’s Court on one count of murder.

She appeared via video-link from Greenough Regional Prison where she has been in custody since late June, 2014.

Dr Liyanage is accused of killing her 34-year-old husband Doctor Dinendra Athukorala at a unit in Shenton Street on June 24 last year.

She will appear before the Perth Supreme Court in March.
