Flying visit ends in marriage

George Carter had to go to court before he could marry Danielle Holdsworth.

He had permission from Danielle’s dad, Simon, but the green light was needed from the law.

Normally, people have to be in the country for one month and a day before they can marry, but Britons George, 24, and Danielle, 21, only arrived in Geraldton a fortnight ago and were leaving yesterday.

They wanted to fly back to the UK as Mr and Mrs Carter, so they enlisted celebrant Peta Shepherd.

Not only did Mrs Shepherd officiate at the Australia Day wedding ceremony at the HMAS Sydney Memorial, but she also organised the legal paperwork.

“This is our first time here (Geraldton) … and we fell in love with it,” George said as he and his bride walked the tarmac to their outward-bound flight.
