Orana Cinemas Geraldton has lodged an application for a liquor licence with the Department of Racing, Gaming and liquor.

The Special Facility Licence application was lodged by Orana Holdings Pty Ltd in February this year.

If granted, the licence would allow the Geraldton venue to serve alcohol seven days a week from 10am to 11pm with the exception of Christmas Day.

The application is for a service common in metropolitan cinemas where food and alcoholic beverages are served during screenings.

In the application, Orana Cinemas Director Ron Siemiginowski said the service would provide cinema-goers with a greater experience.

“(The proposed manner of trade is) to give clientele the option to select a light meal and accompanying beverage, while enjoying the movie – targeted to mature audiences,” he said.

“It will provide responsible adults with the choice of further enjoying their cinema experience.

"Increased patronage around the West End will make the area safe at night and more user-friendly.”

Public comment on the application closes on June 28.
