A Mt Tarcoola man has been charged after police allegedly found a stolen rifle and drugs in his car early this morning.

Police said they stopped the man's Toyota Prado on Eve Street, Beresford, at 2.30am and found a modified .22 calibre rifle, glass smoking implement and an amount of methylamphetamine.

Police allege the rifle was stolen during a burglary in Spalding last October.

The 27-year-old has been charged with possessing stolen or unlawfully obtained property, possessing a firearm with circumstances of aggravation (altered), possessing a prohibited drug and possessing a smoking implement.

He will appear before Geraldton Magistrate's Court on January 22.
