A 21-year-old Geraldton driver was fined $1000 when she was clocked at 151 km/h on Brand Highway near Eneabba late yesterday afternoon.

Police said she avoided “by the skin of her teeth” a reckless driving charge and 28-day car seizure, which applies if drivers travel at 155 km/h or higher in a 110 km/h zone.

The woman, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, was pulled over at 4.11pm about 10 kilometres north of the township.

She told police the reason she was speeding was to “get home to see my mum”.

Sergeant Jane Gillham of Three Springs Police Station said police had probably saved the woman's life.

“At that time of day wildlife start to come out and if she happened to hit something at that speed she would’ve had no chance,” she said.

The driver was also given seven demerit points.
