No joke, it’ll be a ripper day out

Funnyman and ringleader of the Comedy Emporium, Julian Canny will MC Geraldton’s 2015 Australia Day celebrations.

Canny said he loved Australia as much as anyone.

“I love Australia Day as it’s the most amount of sunlight I get a year,” he said.

“I also love telling everyone about Australia Day … which is handy since I will be one of the MCs.

“The City have done a fantastic job organising the day. The event will be something Australians can be proud to call their own — in the same way we do with anyone from New Zealand who becomes famous.

“Plus, we are too lazy to travel the world. Why not just enjoy all the multicultural elements of our society in our backyard?

“I love the multicultural identity we are really starting to embrace here in Australia. It is becoming more and more relevant every year.

“The foreshore celebrations are going to be fantastic. People really wear their pride on their sleeve. Our true nature comes out on Australia Day. Last year, I saw a member of a band stop the song midway through because he broke his thongs. Lucky for us, that brave cobber decided to keep playing just so we could enjoy the music. What a sacrifice!

“The Oz factor events will put Australians to the test in simple but fun competitions for all the family. Things like thong-throwing, tong-tossing and hot beach sandwalking while carrying your kids’ beach gear may or may not feature.

“In good Aussie Day spirit, we have not figured it all out, but she’ll be right ... basically expect to have some fun and win some terrible prizes. It will be more Australian than Kuta Beach.”
