Overheating power point sparks house blaze

A Geraldton house fire which caused more than $10,000 damage was sparked by an overheating power point, a Department of Fire and Emergency spokeswoman says.

Officers from Geraldton Country Fire and Rescue Service and fire volunteers were called to a Durlacher St property about 6.30pm on Friday.

DFES officials say the blaze was extinguished and nobody was harmed in the incident.

The spokeswoman said damage were estimated in excess of $10,000.

It is not clear if anyone was home at the time of the blaze.
