A 23-year-old man has been charged after police allegedly located an unlicensed firearm at his Woorree home.

Police say a short-barrelled firearm was found wrapped inside a pillowcase and sheet under a bush near the back patio on Saturday night.

He was charged with possessing a controlled weapon and will face court today.
