Police in the Mid West allegedly caught a suspended driver behind the wheel of a station sedan, with an unrestrained child in the middle and a man sleeping in the rear cargo area.

Perenjori police tweeted about the vehicle stop late last night.

It follows an incident at Dongara on Tuesday, where police allegedly caught a mother driving without a seatbelt on, while her baby was unrestrained in a bassinet on the front seat.

Police stopped the 32-year-old on Flanagan Way in Dongara about 9am.

The mother had a baby seat in her Mercedes sedan but allegedly told police the eight-month-old child "wouldn’t settle”.

According to police, she had just dropped two children at school.

Senior Constable Luke Scott said there was “no excuse for endangering the life of a baby”.

She was fined a total of $600 for not wearing a seatbelt and having an unrestrained passenger under 16 years of age.
