A record cold snap has delayed flights between Geraldton and Perth this morning.

Flights inbound to Geraldton and outbound to Perth have been delayed, including a Qantas plane which had to be swapped out due to mechanical problems.

Both Qantas and Virgin Australia’s morning flights have been delayed.

Scheduled departures for 8.10am and 8.30am from Geraldton have been delayed to 12.30pm and 12.50pm.

Geraldton shivered through its coldest day of the year today.

The mercury plunged to 2.3 degrees Celsius at 5.12am.

The coldest day on record was -0.4 degrees on July 4, 2010.

At the other end of the scale, Geraldton last month recorded its hottest June day on record — 29.6 degrees on June 9.
