There have been plenty of demands thrown at Country Week golf organiser Andrew Short for next month’s tournament.

He has obliged with more prizes on offer and a bigger women’s competition which will run over two days.

The popular competition held at Geraldton and Spalding Park Golf clubs from January 12 to 16 is expected to attract about 240 players from around WA.

A women’s competition will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the men’s tournament is played over five days.

Short said the competition had undergone a small facelift.

“We have run a ladies competition for a few years, but they have come to me and asked for a bigger involvement, ” he said.

“More feedback was that players wanted more prizes. It is all about having fun, it is a championship, but the guys come here for a good time.”

One of the new prizes is a $1000 reward for a hole-in-one.

Previously the sand greens division would play together and grass greens the same, but this time the two categories will play together to give players an opportunity to play with different partners.
