Police release footage of car and people in vicinity of fatal Brisbane shooting
Police have released the CCTV footage of the moments surrounding a fatal shooting that shocked a quiet Brisbane street.
The video shows the moment a car – believed to be a 2016 Audi A6 – drove into a street less than a block from where a 38-year-old man was shot and killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Police believe a 12-gauge shotgun was used in the shooting.
In the footage the car can be seen turning around in a driveway and waiting at the side of the road before it drives back towards the scene of the crime at about the time of the shooting.
Another video captured two people heading east along Cliveden Ave in Oxley towards the home where the shooting occurred.
Police are seeking the two people in the video for information relating to the fatal shooting.
Police attended the scene at Cliveden Ave in Oxley about 3.25am on Tuesday after neighbours who reported hearing gunshots called triple-0.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters a 38-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to the chest in the front yard of the home.
He said the man did not live at the property and had reportedly been sitting in his car nearby when a fight broke out.
Initial witness statements have led police to believe a dispute was taking place outside the home between the homeowner and five individuals.
When the individuals allegedly began assaulting the homeowner, the victim jumped out of his car to help.
As he rushed to the man’s aid he was allegedly shot at close range in the chest with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Police believe the dead man had been involved in a long-running dispute with the homeowner and the five alleged offenders.
The nature of the dispute is still under investigation.
The homeowner received minor injuries during the alleged assault and is assisting police with inquiries.
A gunman and four accomplices are still on the run after the incident.
Police do not know yet how the five alleged attackers left the scene – whether by vehicle or on foot.
“These type of instances in public spaces concern me,” Superintendent Massingham said.
“We have a number of persons armed with significant weaponry and its’ important that we harness what information is available in the community this morning to set us on the right track.”
Police said they couldn’t discard the possibility that the dead man had been at the residence prior to being in his car.
His white Honda was parked across the street from the crime when emergency services arrived at the scene.
The shooting joins a string of gun violence that has taken place in the Sunshine State over the weekend.
A 24-year-old man was fatally shot by police at Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays on Saturday.
On the same day further south in Surfers Paradise, a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest by a person inside a moving vehicle.
His injuries were non-life threatening.
