It’s a busy few days for Geraldton’s women’s soccer sides, with a quirk of scheduling meaning each team will play a unique double-header, with some teams then playing a third match in a week as the knockout cup starts.

Abrolhos FC beat Chapman Athletic 2-1 last Wednesday thanks to goals from Ava Gould and Paige Carslake, while Ricci Russell scored for Chapman.

Olympic FC drew 1-1 with Rovers, with Maddie Ahearn scoring for the Blues and Renee Demeo replying. Champions Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma beat Marconi 2-0.

Each team was due to play the same opponent for a second time on Monday night, as the association clears a delayed fixture from earlier in the season that was postponed due to weather.

For some teams, it’s then straight into knockout cup action.

Marconi will play Rovers in the first round of the cup on Wednesday.

Rovers will be hoping players like WA Indigenous representative Dainira Papertalk can fire them into the next round, while Marconi have experienced stars such as Janelle Phillips and Rachel Chidlow and some promising new players.

Abrolhos will play Olympic on the same evening. UF La Fiamma and Chapman are through to the next round.

They will play the winners from the first knockout round in the semi-finals on September 6.

In the men’s league, Chapman Athletic beat UF La Fiamma 2-0 last Wednesday to take the title race to the final day. They must now win against Abrolhos FC tonight to keep their hopes alive, and hope UF La Fiamma can cause an upset against league leaders Olympic in the other game. Abrolhos beat Rovers 3-1 on Saturday.

In the reserves, Abrolhos beat Chapman Black 2-0 on Saturday.

Olympic beat Rovers 2-0.

Abrolhos play Rovers in the first round of the reserves knockout cup on Saturday.
