Jade Andrew Hinder: Kalgoorlie-Boulder man labelled category A family violence offender before sentencing

A Kalgoorlie-Boulder man who has been labelled a category A family violence offender has been sentenced to a suspended term of imprisonment with the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device. Jade Andrew Hinder, 44, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges including three counts of breaching protective bail conditions, and one count of breaching a family violence restraining order. The charges related to the stalking of his ex-partner, with the court being told in October last year Hinder drove past his victim’s house and messaged her “Can you talk?” less than half an hour after being granted bail under the condition he stayed away from her. Hinder pleaded guilty to breaching protective bail conditions and a family violence restraining order. His lawyer Ashley Watson told magistrate Paul Lyons that Hinder’s messages with the victim were two-way and never violent or threatening. He said his client made those breaches because their relationship ended abruptly and he had not received any closure. Mr Lyons labelled Hinder a category A family violence offender before sentencing him to seven months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. He said Hinder believed he was entitled and had consistently made his own decisions in breach of court orders. “Your sense of entitlement means more to you than following the court,” he said. “You’ve just decided you know what’s best for you. “It’s not just about you.” Hinder will have to wear an electronic monitoring device during the 12-month period and will need to report to community corrections and attend any programs assigned to him.
