A Geraldton retiree has this week won half a million dollars, after her numbers came up in Saturday’s Lotto. Her division one ticket was sold at Queens Supa IGA.

The woman — who has been playing her own lucky numbers for 15 years — said she hadn’t won any money in months and was just about to throw in the towel before deciding to give it “just one more go”.

She popped into Queens IGA, which is not her usual Lotterywest store, and bought the winning ticket. After she realised she had won, while watching Saturday’s draw, she rang her son.

He took a bottle from the bucks party he was attending and left to celebrate with his family.

The woman said she’s still in shock and hasn’t yet made plans to spend the money, but her children are enthusiastic about taking a family holiday.

The Geraldton residents were the second Mid West family to claim $544,506 in Division One Lotto. A Dongara family bought the other winning ticket, from the Dongara IGA store.

They said they were in disbelief when they realised they had won.

“I reckon you could have heard my screams from Perth,” a family member said.

“This means so much to us because we can spend less time at work and more time with our family

“Our dog’s even joining in on the celebrations.

“We’re treating him to a hot chook rather than budget dog biscuits.”
