Melbourne Cup: Healthy number of participants brave the stage at Geraldton Turf Club for Fashions on the Field

Keen punters and fashion fanatics dressed up on Tuesday to celebrate the Melbourne Cup at the Geraldton Turf Club. More than 1000 people attended the grounds, filling the club with the bright colours of spring as ladies and gents dressed to impress. Those confident enough to show off their outfits took to the stage for Fashions on the Field, with a healthy number of men and women scrubbing up for the competition this year. Seven men entered the competition, with judges naming Seth Patience the best-dressed for his blue suit and patterned purple tie. The crowd roared during the best-dressed couple competition, with six loved-up duos taking to the stage in their matching outfits. Judges chose Holly Montgomery and Paul Essenson as the winners, who wore a fiery red dress and matching tie. There were 19 women who braved the stage, some taking part for the first time, and others well-known to spectators. Each participant had her own unique style, putting the fine details of her outfit on display. Chantelle Blakeney was named the best-dressed woman, with first runner-up going to Ashlee Clarke and second runner-up to Carlee Edwards. Leta Michelle was judged to have the best millinery. While there was plenty of fun to be had and drinks to go around throughout the day, the crowd were well behaved at the track this year. The next race day will be held on Sunday November 17.
