The Geraldton Buccaneers extend their unbeaten start to the NBL1 West season

The Geraldton Buccaneers have defeated the Goldfield Giants, 85-75 in round five of the NBL1 West season to maintain their perfect unbeaten start to the season.

Playing in front of their home fans at Activewest Stadium on Saturday night, the Buccs went into half-time with the Giants leading 37-35.

However they produced another impressive second half performance, scoring 26 points in the third quarter while holding the Giants to just 14.

The Giants were unable to come back in the fourth, giving the Buccs a comfortable 10-point victory — their sixth win in a row.

Cameron Coleman put up 24 points and seven rebounds for the Buccs with Mathiang Muo delivering 23 points and four boards, and Shaun Stewart 17 points, 10 assists and four rebounds.

Ryan Blanchett also contributed seven points, Liam Hunt five and Johny Narkle five. Captain Mat Wundenberg collected 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

The Buccs remain the only undefeated team in the competition, with a percentage of 128.50.

They are a game clear on top of the NBL1 West ladder.

Their next game will provide them with another big test as they face the second-placed Rockingham Flames on Saturday, May 14 at Activewest Stadium.
