Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry to celebrate International Women’s Day with Lacey Filipich

The Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry will celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday with an In Conversation event at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre. Financial literacy expert Lacey Filipich will be interviewed on stage by Bunbury Herald editor Amber Lilley. Ms Filipich left her life as an engineer to become a financial educator and holds an honours degree in chemical engineering. BGCCI chief executive officer Julie Broad said she was looking forward to the event and welcoming former South West local Ms Filipich back to the region. “I’m really excited and very passionate about ensuring women know the importance of financial literacy,” she said. “Back in the day, women didn’t have the opportunity to learn about finance and it’s fantastic to have Lacey in the region and be talking to women in business leads.” Ms Broad said the guest speaker and the discussion of women understanding finance and money was inspired by the United Nations’ International Women’s Day theme of marching forward for all women and girls. “We’ve come so far forward,” she said. “We’ve come so far for women to be allowed and have the opportunities to be able to understand women and their role in financial literacy. “Homelessness is on the rise and older women aged more than 55 are rising the most for homelessness numbers. It’s important for young people as well to understand money and how we can manage it ourselves. “It wasn’t until 1974 under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act that women were allowed to apply for a credit card. In 1971 women were allowed to apply for a bank loan without the approval of a male. Not every woman is married or in female-male relationships.” Tickets for the event are on sale and open to BGCCI members and non-members, with 100 tickets already sold. Ticket prices include a two course lunch with the event to begin at 12pm.
