Mother-son painters Ingrid and Josh Windram to host dynamic exhibition at Yallingup Galleries this weekend

Mother and son artists Ingrid and Josh Windram are set to open a joint Kimberley-inspired exhibition at Yallingup Galleries. The exhibition will open on Saturday evening and run until April 13, with gallery visitors able to enjoy the dynamic contrast between Ingrid’s masterful take on landscapes and Josh’s emotive contemporary abstract artworks. Ingrid said the collaborative exhibition process was something they enjoyed and had previously done with JahRoc Galleries. “(This) was an opportunity to have a joint exhibition at Yallingup Gallery. It was . . . something that we had done before that was successful (and) enjoyable,” she said. “It’s great to do a joint show. Josh and I work together in our studio . . . and I think we just enjoy having someone to work with, someone to share ideas with (and) when you get stuck, you got someone there to talk it through.” She added that the collaboration between her and Josh made the isolation during the process of making art easier. “We enjoy a bit of banter and some music,” Ingrid said. “It’s just really lovely getting in a zone in that way and sharing that. The inspiration was to do that process again, as it was so much fun.” The duo said they were inspired by their time in the Kimberley and the landscapes that define the northern region, with both artists interpreting the area differently. “As a professional artist, I’ve developed a pretty strong style, particularly living in the Kimberley for 20 years,“ she said. “Now of course, I had to move down south where there’s a very different landscape — a big contrast to living in the Kimberley.” Josh said he’s quite different compared to his mum. “I work more intuitively, not trying to depict any particular location — I’m just working pure instincts,” he said. “I like clean lines, but we both get our inspiration from similar places. “She has a distinctive landscape style. Mine is based on landscape, but it is more of an emotive tooling style.” Josh said the process leading up to the exhibition had been “remarkable” and he hoped the show would be “great”. “You put an exhibition together as the end result, but sometimes the artwork takes its own path,” Josh said. “Another thing that I’ll say, it’s really interesting to go from having all these blank canvases, but within three months having a complete exhibition put together. “The inspiration is already there and we already knew what we wanted to do, and now it’s finished, and we just can’t wait for it to be up and check it out.”
