Police are appealing for information about an alleged assault on a female taxi driver in Geraldton on Friday.

The taxi driver picked up a group of four – two females and two young boys - from Geraldton Bus Depot before a verbal altercation arose when the driver requested a deposit for the fare, which the group refused.

It is alleged the taxi driver stopped the taxi about 9.20pm on Chapman Road, near Lewis Street, and began removing the passengers’ luggage when the two female passengers assaulted her.

It is further alleged that the taxi driver’s purse was taken by one of the passengers, who assaulted the woman when she asked for it to be returned.

The taxi driver suffered bruising and cuts to her face.
