Bruce Bellinge: Father of doctor Rhys Bellinge charged with manslaughter says family ‘totally devastated’

The high-profile Perth father of the obstetrician charged over a horror Dalkeith crash that claimed the life of a young woman says they are “totally devastated”. Rhys Henry Stone Bellinge, who has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a 24-year-old female, is the son of multimillionaire businessman Bruce Bellinge. Bruce told The West Australian on Monday that the family was “totally devastated”. “We are devastated for the young woman and her family and the driver and his family,” he said. “The grief and pain they must be feeling at the moment are totally overwhelming.” Bruce was pictured on Monday outside Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where Rhys remains after suffering significant injuries in the crash. Bruce and his wife Megan Wynne are a prominent Perth power couple who are major shareholders in employment and disability service provider APM Group, which Ms Wynne founded in 1994 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2021. It has since been taken private by US-based private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners, which bought the company for about $1.3 billion in 2024. Bruce is a reproductive biologist and managing director of Concept Fertility Centre and Concept Day Hospital, which he started. He is credited with establishing Australia’s first private IVF fertility treatment centre. With a personal wealth once estimated to be as high as $1.4 billion, the couple lives in Dalkeith, the wealthy suburb where the weekend’s deadly crash occurred. Rhys lives in the neighbouring suburb of Nedlands. Ms Wynne is not the mother of Rhys. Rhys, 45, has been charged with manslaughter and dangerous driving after his blue Jaguar sedan allegedly crashed into a parked rideshare vehicle on Birdwood Parade about 10.15pm on Saturday. Rhys — an obstetrician at Concept Obstetrics and Gynaecology — has been described as a “pioneer in freezing human eggs” who performed Western Australia’s first embryo biopsy for genetic testing. Concept has since released a statement stating he will be “unavailable” due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Rhys was named a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2024.
