Corellas refuse to move on
The City hierarchy reckons it can move ’em here, move ’em there, but they cannot move ’em from the Geraldton racecourse.
There are up to 1000 corellas flying around, and settling, on the racetrack.
There may be only one horse who hasn’t got used to sharing early starts to the day with the squawkers — but there are many more humans who are unsettled by them.
Geraldton Turf Club curator Dylan Bentley said the corellas were digging up the shorter grass.
“Many trees have had their canopies stripped, ” Mr Bentley said.
“And it’s the same next door (at the golf course), with groundsmen having to clear fairways of debris.”
Leading trainer Murray Sharp said nothing, including “crackers and cannons”, had proved effective in moving the birds.
“They are too clever and simply fly off and return, ” he said.
