Cowboys' win spurs frontyard branding
City of Greater Geraldton chief executive Ken Diehm and his wife Tania, diehard North Queensland Cowboys fans, showed their true colours after their team’s NRL grand final win last weekend.
Mr Diehm spent two hours painting the front lawn of their Geraldton property with the Cowboys’ logo, after learning flights to the big game would have cost $6500.
The couple have supported the Cowboys since their inception in 1995, when Ken’s first job as a CEO was to head up the project to convert a harness racing track into the Cowboys’ home stadium.
“We couldn’t ask for a better fairytale finish,” he said of the team’s 17-16 win against the Brisbane Broncos in extra time.
“We were absolutely rapt, but unfortunately I had to curtail celebrations because I had to be sharp for work on Monday.
“They’re a truly regional team with a lot of home-grown players, so I was delighted.”
The couple, who are also big fans on the Geraldton Buccaneers, hope to be celebrating against next year during the team’s SBL campaign.
“We’d like to see the Buccs take the SBL title,” Mr Diehm said.
