There will be a family-friendly feel on the Geraldton Foreshore tonight, with activities, entertainment and fireworks.

The Panaceum Sun City Cinema, in conjunction with Dome Café, will host the entertainment and the City of Greater Geraldton will sponsor the fireworks display.

There will be live music from 6pm, games, a bouncy castle, face-painting, a “fish and chip special” from Dome.

For families with older children, when the sun sets the film “Guardians of the Galaxy” (rated M) will play on the big screen.

The New Year will be sparked a little early for the young ones, with the fireworks beginning around 9.30pm.

Entry will be $3 for children and $5 for adults.

Acting mayor Neil McIlwaine said the city was happy to support the event.

“Bringing in the New Year is something everyone should celebrate, no matter what their age,” he said.

Sun City Cinema owner George Scicluna said the event was initiated by the general public.

“We had a lot of feedback from the community about a lack of family activities on New Year’s Eve,” he said.

“Sun City Cinema had such success throughout the last year we thought we’d take the feedback on board and create a fun event for families.”
