A motorist who allegedly led police on a high speed chase through several Geraldton suburbs last night will face court today.

Police allege the man, driving a Holden Commodore, reached speeds of up to 167km/h during the pursuit, through Waggrakine, Bluff Point and Spalding.

Officers stopped the car in Broome Street, Spalding, after using a metal spike strip to deflate its tyres.

The man was arrested soon after.

Police allege that earlier the man was disturbed stealing a metal shovel and sledgehammer from a house in Pinyali Way, Waggrakine.

A 30-year-old Waggrakine man has been charged with stealing, reckless driving, failing to stop when called upon and not having a driver's licence.

He will appear before Geraldton Magistrate’s Court.
