Plants stolen from church gardens
More than two dozen plants have been stolen from the Salvation Army church gardens, leaving church members out of pocket and feeling disillusioned.
Flowering frangipanis, geraniums, vincas, kangaroo paws, alyssum, Moses in the bulrushes and several succulents were plucked.
Church crisis centre manager Dianne Bulmer said she didn’t know “how people could do this to an organisation that puts a lot of work into helping the people of Geraldton”.
Ms Bulmer said all the plants were donated and the garden was tended by church members and clients of the crisis centre.
She said this was the second time plants had been stolen from the church gardens since refurbishments to the building and grounds were completed in September.
Some of the stolen plants were replacements for three frangipanis stolen over Christmas.
Lieutenant Jeff Milkins said he was very disappointed someone would commit such a crime against a not-for-profit organisation.
“It’s upsetting for a couple of our people who are doing it tough and have been doing the gardening as a form of therapy over the past six months,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000.
