Rex Mason: Teenage victim who died in Bouvard motorbike crash remembered as being ‘full of life’

The grieving family of a 17-year-old boy who died in an off-road motorcycle crash have paid tribute to the teenager who they say was “full of life”.
Rex Mason died just before 1pm on Saturday, when the off-road motorbike he was riding collided with another bike being ridden by a 15-year-old boy on White Hill Road in Bouvard.
He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

In a statement posted to a GoFundMe page, the teen’s family remembered him as having a “heart that made everyone around him feel welcome”.
“He was full of life — tall as anything (seriously the tallest person most of us had ever met), with a cheeky grin, a passion for motorbikes,” the tribute read.
“Rex was the kind of kid who could light up a room just by walking into it. He was only just beginning his life, taken away from us all far too early.”
The statement went on to say the family was very close, working side by side in the family’s fish and chip shop.
“Rex was part of everything they did — helping out, joking around, and being a real part of the team,” it said.
“His loss has left an enormous hole in their hearts, their home, and their everyday lives.”
More than $21,000 has been raised so far to cover funeral costs and to support the family.
“Right now, the family is completely overwhelmed with grief,” the fundraiser read.
“They’re trying to navigate funeral arrangements while mourning their beautiful boy.
“Understandably, they will not be able to work very much if at all and the emotional and financial strain is taking a real toll.”
A group of distraught teenagers on motorbikes gathered at the crash site on Sunday, leaving flowers and a motorbike tyre on a tree near where the teen was killed.
Other friends paid tribute by doing burnouts and skids and posting it on social media in honour of their friend, blocking other motorists in the process.
Rex was described as a “nice guy” who took care of many of his friends.
“He didn’t have one bad bone in his body,” one friend said.
The second rider escaped the horror crash with only minor injuries.
The tragic death comes less than six months after Rex’s cousin had a motorbike accident while holidaying in Bali in October last year.
He needed brain surgery to save his life before being flown back to Perth to recover.
