Shots capture diversity

The Geraldton Regional Art Gallery is giving the public a chance to take in some amazing shots from local photographers as part of the Focus 2015 exhibition.

Showcasing the works of the Geraldton Camera Club, the exhibition features a range of different styles of photography.

Focus 2015 is the result of the club’s members voting for their favourite snaps throughout the year at their monthly meetings where different themes are explored by the local shutterbugs.

Since 1950, the Geraldton Camera Club has been meeting to swap photography tips and compare shots.

Ken Lawson, president of the club, wants people to realise the power of seeing a photograph in the flesh. “A photo is not a photo until it’s printed,” he said.

“In the modern day world we scroll through hundreds of photos a day and we don’t ever get to appreciate it, part of this exhibition is about re-engaging with an actual photograph.”

Given the beauty of the Geraldton coastline, the local photographers don’t need to travel too far to get a good shot, and Julie Sproule from the Regional Art Gallery said it shows in the photos.

“The landscape really inspires people here and the images reflect that,” she said.

“There’s such a diverse range of photos on offer.”

The exhibition will continue until February 13.

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, excluding New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
