Towns flag favourites: Travcich

Towns man of the moment Michael Travcich has added some spice to today’s clash with top side Sportsmans at The Rec, talking up his side’s credentials as flag favourites.

After belting a superb 127 against Chapman Valley-Northampton last week, he told the Guardian he believed second-placed Towns had the talent to grab the major prize.

“When we have our full side it’s awesome and I think we have a really good balance with very good young bowlers and experienced batsmen so I’m happy where we are,” he said.

“I think Tobes (Martin Tobin), who coached me by the way when I was young, has done a fantastic job with Sportsmans and you have to respect Wanderers.

“But I don’t think Sporties are flag favourites, I think we are — it’s not Christmas yet but I reckon we’re favourites.”

Sporties and Towns have met twice this season.

Towns won a T20 match by 24 runs, but Sporties came back in the second encounter to smash Towns by 121 runs.

Clint Yeates belted an unbeaten 146 in the latter.

The other A-grade game will be at Nabawa, where Wanderers will take on Chapman Valley-Northampton.

B-grade: Wanderers v Sportsmans at GBSC-1; Dongara v Towns at Dongara; Chapman Valley-Northampton v Bluff Point at Northampton.
