A Deepdale youth has been charged after he allegedly shone a laser pointer at traffic while riding pillion on a motorcycle on Saturday night.

The alleged incident happened on Chapman Road, Sunset Beach, about 10pm.

Police searched the youth and allegedly found a black laser pointer that emits a green light, as well as a clipseal bag containing a tablet believed to be MDMA.

He has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug and carrying or possessing a controlled weapon.

He will appear before Geraldton Children's Court.
