In agony and having just witnessed the brutal execution of her parents and sister, a 10-year-old girl’s decision to play dead probably saved her life.

With a bullet lodged in her shattered arm, the girl, who has not been named, waited until the killer left her Houston apartment before locking the door, comforting her surviving younger brother and calling family members to raise the alarm.

Now, three years after the terrifying attack, the killer has confessed to the crime — allegedly carried out on behalf of an ex-lover of one of the victims.

Just as opening statements began in his trial Xavier Davis, 32, pleaded guilty to killing Gregory Carhee, 35, pregnant mother Donyavia Lagway, 29, and the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Harmony Carhee.

In an unusual move, the trial is continuing so jury members can hear the evidence of the case before making a decision on sentencing, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Allegedly hired as a hitman, Davis entered the victims’ upstairs Houston apartment about 10.30pm on June 30, 2021, demanding money before shooting the adults at point blank range before also fatally shooting Harmony and shooting her 10-year-old sister in the arm.

Davis fled the apartment, leaving the girl bleeding and her six-year-old brother unharmed.

Another brother, 8, was not at home at the time.

Police were quick to pounce on Davis, who was in custody on a different charge, arresting him a day after the brutal shooting.

A woman who allegedly ordered the killings was also arrested.

At the time, police said: “Alexus Williams, had a prior dating relationship with one of the victims, Ms Lagway, and they had broken up shortly before the shootings.”

“Investigators learned Williams arranged the robbery and suspect Davis was the shooter. Williams and Davis had been friends since they were children.”

After her arrest, police alleged that Williams had Facetimed Davis during the murder spree.

Ms Williams’ trial is get underway later this year. She has pleaded not guilty.

Davis’ criminal record stretches back to his first conviction at 13 years-old for theft and at 14 for aggravated robbery and retaliation and he had potential gang ties, according to the Houston Chronicle.

it is understood the girl is now 14 and in the care of a relative.
