Dutton, Credlin, Albrechtsen among revolving door of big names called in to ramp up Liberals campaign in WA

High-profile commentators Peta Credlin and Janet Albrechtsen will be among big names the Liberals Party are calling in from the east as campaigning ramps up in the kingmaker State. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will kick off the party’s battle in the west on Monday, headlining Liberal candidate Tom White’s campaign launch for the seat of Curtin. The Liberal leader is expected to address hundreds of party faithful and reignite the electorate’s former wealthy-donor base back into the fold to assist their war chest against teal independent Kate Chaney. The Climate 200-backed incumbent snatched the blue-ribbon Federal seat from Celia Hammond in 2022 with a razor-thin 1.3 per cent margin — the narrowest independent victory in the country. Mr White’s launch will kick off a flurry of events across the next month, with a guest appearance by Credlin at a Cottesloe function on February 7. Credlin left a 16-year political career, including being chief-of-staff to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, in 2016 to join the media as a Sky News host and newspaper columnist. In late February, a $240-a-head exclusive soiree hosted by Albrechtsen will seek to “revive” “liberal values” and rally support among the State’s elite to overturn Labor’s unprecedented majority at the State election on March 8. The private event will be hosted in Peppermint Grove and promises a “wonderful evening for great conversation, fabulous food and summer fun”. The big-name events come after a John Howard-attended dinner raised more than $200,000 earlier this month for Mr White’s campaign. Curtin is expected to be a multi-million dollar battle at the 2025 Federal Election, with both Ms Chaney and Mr White previously citing more than a $1M war chests to claim the western suburbs seat. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has until the middle of May to call a Federal election.
