Richmond star Tom Lynch is set to come under scrutiny for a high shot on Carlton ruck Tom De Koning during Thursday night’s blockbuster at the MCG.

During the second term, De Koning collected the ball in traffic and dished off a handball before being met heavily by Lynch.

The big Tiger’s shoulder made contact with De Koning’s face in what looking like a worrying incident.

But fortunately for both players involved, the Carlton star was able to get up and continue playing without treatment.

He came to the bench later and wasn’t even assessed for a concussion, which suggests the impact was on the lower end.

However, that is unlikely to save Lynch from the match review officer.

“That’s an issue for Tom Lynch this week I would have thought,” Kane Cornes said on Channel 7.

“Elect to bump, collect them high, trouble.”

Boundary rider Mitch Cleary is expecting a suspension to be handed down.

“I think Tom Lynch is a big worry next week against Port Adelaide. Judging on last year’s results, that would be careless, medium impact and high contact, looking at a one-week ban,” Cleary said.

When asked if the lack of injury will make a difference, Cleary was emphatic.

“The AFL does not care about that. If there is potential to cause injury, they will enforce a suspension,” he added.

During the half-time break, Channel 7 commentator NIck Riewoldt said Lynch was very lucky to have not caused serious damage.

“If he had knocked him out, he would have been looking at five or six weeks with the action. It’s late, he leaves the ground, it’s high, didn’t need to do it,” he told Channel 7.

“This is exactly the sort of action that we are trying to legislate out of the game. He has gotten rid of the ball well and truly before the bump. He is so lucky.”

Cornes added that Lynch needed to be better as a leader of the young team.

“He has got to be better than that. He has played eight games in the last two seasons. This is such a young group. They need that experience out there,” he said.

“After the injury troubles he has had he knows you can’t do that. It was a moment of frustration because Weitering had the better of him. It’s not good enough for a leader of the club.”
