Reigning Zoe Goss medalist Amy Edgar has injured her left hamstring and will miss at least today’s clash with Tasmania.

Edgar’s minor hamstring strain has emerged from Tuesday’s defeat at the WACA Ground, where she took two wickets, and leaves WA with a dearth of bowling options.

It has opened the door for Bhavi Devchand to make a remarkable return to the team, five years after she last played a game for WA.

The star allrounder is hopeful of a return for WA’s double-header against fellow title contenders Queensland from October 3.

It can also be revealed fast bowler Taneale Peschel’s horror pre-season injury run has continued.

Peschel was in a race to be fit for the opening week of the season with back issues, but re-injured her quad at a training session on Saturday and has been ruled out of the second game against Tasmania after missing Tuesday’s loss.

She is also in doubt for the two matches in Queensland.

It comes just over two weeks since swing bowler Piepa Cleary was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury, while leg-spinner Alana King is on international duty.

Devchand signed her first contract with WA since 2019 this year. The spinning allrounder then played for Victoria before moving to South Australia, where she was working as a coach with the State’s underage teams.

She returned home to Perth last season and was the best player in Premier Cricket last summer with Wanneroo.

Tasmania have ruled out middle-order batter Tabatha Saville from Thursday’s match with concussion, while former West Aussie Heather Graham will return to their side from the Australian camp.
