Former Olympian to lend expertise to next generation as part of Mid West push for 2032 Olympic success

Former world and Commonwealth Games athlete and Australian team coach, Lyn Foreman OAM, will be holding coaching clinics this weekend at the athletics track on behalf of the Mid West Academy of Sport. Foreman, who specialised in the 400m hurdles, has won four national titles, held Australian and New Zealand records and also competed in two World Cups, World Championships, and Commonwealth and Pacific Conference Games, where she won gold. She has coached numerous Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes and has been the Australian Team Coach for sprints, hurdles, heptathlon and decathlon events. Foreman was also head athletics coach at the WA Institute of Sport for 20 years. She has a passion for coaching, is a facilitator for Coaching Accreditation, lectures at all Perth Universities and has worked with Tennis Australia, Hockey Australia and the Eagles and Dockers with speed and technique sessions. Academy chairman and track and field coach Gary Clark said he caught up with Foreman, a former Canning Districts Athletic Club team-mate, at the All-Schools Championships last weekend in Perth. “She was impressed with the standard of the Geraldton athletes and the results they were achieving and offered to assist in their preparation for the All-Schools Australian Championships later in the year,” he said. Clark said Foreman would also be attending the Geraldton Athletics events Saturday afternoon to help athletes, officials and coaches in a range of Track and Field disciplines. “She will conduct a parent and coaches workshop and will be assisting various age groups on Sunday to work on technique in sprints, hurdles, jumps and field events.” Foreman will also assist with the selection process and provide specialist coaching for athletes nominated for the recently launched MWAS talent identification program with eyes on the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
