West Ham coach Rehanne Skinner says they will know more on the severity of Katrina Gorry’s injury in the coming days after their loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Perth international Football Cup.

Gorry received treatment for what looked to be a lower leg injury late in West Ham’s 1-0 defeat to PSG at HBF Park on Thursday night.

The Matildas midfielder, who captained the Hammers on the night, did not look to be in too much distress while receiving treatment but was removed as a precaution after a strong second-half showing.

Skinner said it was too soon to know the nature and degree of the injury.

“She’s getting treatment at the moment, so I’m not sure. She’s picked up a knock, so we’ll just have to assess that in the coming days,” Skinner said.

PSG set up a tantalising final on Sunday against Manchester City thanks to Romee Leuchter’s first-half strike, with the Parisians controlling the game for the most part.

West Ham worked their way into the game and had their chances, particularly through Vivianne Asseyi, but PSG’s star goalkeeper and new signing Mary Earps was a relative bystander for large periods of the game.

“We know Mary. She’s very good with the ball at her feet, which is a very important part of her quality of her games. That was excellent,” PSG coach Fabrice Abriel said.

“She had little to do. The header from Vivianne Asseyi in the first half was one occasion where she had a something to do, but overall, there wasn’t enough to analyse how she will react under pressure with the defense and how that will work.

“But off the pitch, the team is very happy with her character and how she’s integrated into the squad and what she brings to the squad.”

Skinner said West Ham would take a lot out of their performance against PSG, who reached the semifinals of the Champions League last year.

“That’s our biggest test so far in preseason. I thought we defended really well, made life really difficult for them to play through us in particular,” she said.

“We tried to make it as predictable for ourselves as we could and I thought the players worked incredibly hard from start to finish.

“We want to try and keep evolving how much time we have on the ball, but we had some good spells where we progressed the ball well.

It was perhaps not the return to Perth West Ham defender Shelina Zadorsky would have liked, but the Canadian international was nonetheless happy to be back in WA, having played for the Glory a decade ago.

“I’m aging myself here, it was 2014 I played for Perth Glory, so I have really fond memories in Perth and obviously the World Cup was in Australia as well, we played a game at this stadium, and it’s beautiful,” she said.

“We obviously wished for the win, but like Rhianne was saying, there’s a lot of positives to take forward from this stage in pre-season, and a lot of good performances out there.”

West Ham will face Leicester on Sunday, before PSG take on Manchester City in the final.
