Wonthella Gold go top & knock Mullewa into fourth in Batavia Bowling League men’s pennants with huge win

The Batavia Bowling League men’s pennants competition has a new leader after round 10, with Wonthella Gold on top and Mullewa sliding to fourth after the Golds claimed all the points in a huge 37-point win against the Saints last Saturday.

The win for Gold leaves them in pole position ahead of the final round for the year tomorrow and ahead of the five-week break for Christmas and New Year.

Gold have been ultra-consistent this season, winning seven of their first 10 fixtures and 17 of the 30 rinks they have played.

Geraldton Red are in similar form — since losing their first three games, they have gelled, and finished the latest round with a 7-3 win-loss record and 16 rink victories.

All three Geraldton clubs had first-division wins for just the second time this season, leaving them well placed on the ladder with eight home-and-away rounds to go.

Geraldton Red moved to second on percentage with a 5-1 (65-41) against the Wonthella Green, who moved down to sixth on a congested table from fourth ahead of the round.

The Green Machine just last week were playing for top spot, but consecutive losses in a very competitive competition have proved costly.

Geraldton Blue travelled to Dongara and would be delighted with the 5-1 victory over Denison White and a rise up the ladder to third.

The Blues now have a 50-50 win-loss record and look primed for a strong run home and the possibility of finals play in Denison mid March.

Geraldton Gold hosted an ultra-competitive Wonthella Maroon, but proved too steady at home.

They got on top late in the fixture and drew clear to take a 16-shot aggregate result and claim 5 ½ points.

The win has the city side just a half point adrift of fourth-placed Mullewa, their opponents this week on the Saints’ synthetic.

Denison Blue beat Northampton 5-1 (61-49) in the bottom-of-the-table clash.

The final title of the calendar year will be decided on Sunday as club winners compete in the round-robin champion of champions pairs at Geraldton.
