Losses for Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd as Liverpool win
Embattled Australian manager Ange Postecoglou is under growing pressure as Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest at the City ground.
Anthony Elanga's goal earned Forest three points but Spurs's afternoon soured further when Djed Spence was sent off in stoppage time as Postecoglou's men were handed their fifth defeat in eight Premier League games.
Spurs now languish in the bottom half of the table after a first Boxing Day defeat since 2003.
"It was always going to be a tight game here," Postecoglou said.
"A disappointing goal we conceded, but aside from that the boys worked hard and we tried to generate as many opportunities as we could considering the context of the game and how Forest play.
"We just couldn't get over the line."
At Anfield, league-leaders Liverpool came from behind to beat Leicester City 3-1 after the Foxes scored in the sixth minute.
Mo Salah moved three goals clear of second-place Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot, his 16th of the campaign completing Liverpool's recovery after Cody Gakpo curled in the equaliser in first-half stoppage time and Curtis Jones made it 2-1 in the 49th.
Salah has scored at least one goal in nine of his last 10 league matches, and has 19 goals in all competitions this season.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 20 matches in all competitions, the only defeat all season under new manager Arne Slot coming at home to Forest in the league in September.
The win saw the Reds open up a seven-point gap with a game in hand over second-placed Chelsea, who were shocked 2-1 by Fulham.
On a day of upsets, Wolves also beat Manchester United 2-0 while defending champions Manchester City were held 1-1 by Everton at the Etihad.
Haaland missed a penalty for City as their dismal run of form continued on Boxing Day.
Haaland had the chance to set the four-time defending champions on course for only their second win in 13 games when stepping up for a 53rd minute spot-kick.
But he was denied by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as City's woeful recent run was extended.
Pep Guardiola's team had lost nine of their last 13 games in all competitions and this draw means City have picked up only their fifth point in the league since the end of October.
Bernardo Silva's deflected shot gave City the lead in the 14th minute, but Iliman Ndiaye levelled in the 36th.
At Stamford Bridge, Rodrigo Muniz struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Fulham snatched a superb win to dent Chelsea's title hopes.
Cole Palmer sent Chelsea ahead just 16 minutes in before a late charge saw Marco Silva's side earn three points over their west-London rivals when Harry Wilson levelled and Muniz found a late winner.
Newcastle moved up to fifth in the table after beating 10-man Aston Villa 3-0.
