Podium finishes for Alexa Leary and Ben Hance have lifted Australia to sixth position on the medals table at the world para swimming championships, making it the Dolphins' best performance in a decade.

Leary was second in the women's 50m freestyle S9 in Manchester on Sunday in a personal best of 28.02 seconds.

Countrywoman Emily Beecroft was just outside the medals in fourth with a time of 29.37.

Hance claimed the bronze in the men's 100m butterfly S14 in a personal best of 55.90.

It lifted his haul to two golds, one silver and a bronze from four events.

Tim Hodge clocked one minute 13.44 seconds in the 100m breaststroke SB8 but was later disqualified for an infraction.

Col Pearse was fifth in the men's 100m breaststroke S10 in a PB of 1:03.46.

Australia finished the championships with 30 medals, including nine golds.

Italy topped the table with 26 golds and 52 medals overall.
