Alexander Zverev captures iconic Rottnest Quokka shot as he hopes for Australian glory
German tennis star Alexender Zverev has wasted no time picking up a souvenir from his first trip to Perth in more than four years, grabbing a selfie with a Quokka.
Zverev is no stranger to Perth having previously represented Germany here in four Hopman Cups but has not returned since his last appearance in 2019.
As the men’s world No.2 eyes the Australian Open success early next year he has looked to emulate the deeds of the man who was a six-time champion in Melbourne, Roger Federer.
Ever since the Swiss master’s quokka selfie sent the internet into meltdown in 2017 it has become a must for visiting tennis stars with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic grabbing their own pics in subsequent visits.
Zverev now joins that illustrious list and will be hoping that like Federer that year, the quokka can help take him to glory in Melbourne.
He will get his season underway when he takes on Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro as Germany open their United Cup campaign on Sunday.
