UFC 312: Perth fighter Quillan Salkilld ‘over the moon’ after earning debut in Sydney against Anshul Jubli

Quillan Salkilld is “over the moon” that he will make his UFC debut in Sydney when he steps into the octagon against Anshul “King of Lions” Jubli early next year. Salkilld (7-1) earned a UFC contract when he impressed president Dana White with a comprehensive unanimous decision win over Gauge Young in September during Dana White’s Contender Series. Now the Perth lightweight is ready for the big time when he comes up against Indian Jubli (7-1) at UFC 312 at Qudos Bank Arena on February 3. Salkilld is confident that if the three-round fight goes the distance, he is going to have too much stamina for Jubli. “He’s going to be good for the first round or so but when he gets tired he tends to crumble a little bit or shy away especially when his opponents start firing back,” Salkilld said. “When he has the momentum he looks good but when that momentum shifts it seems like he doesn’t like that so much. “In his last fight, his opponent started barking at him in the last round and ended up winning. I’m going to do that from the get-go, I’m going to start barking at him like a dog and hopefully that does the trick.” Salkilld said he’d learnt a lot from his first time in the Octagon and the 24-year-old is looking to take those lessons into his first full year as a UFC fighter. “I am over the moon mainly because I get to have my debut in Australia and on a pay-per-view event. It’s every Aussie UFC fighter’s dream come true,” he said. “I learned more about myself, how much I can take and that willingness to stand in the fire and get hit. You always imagine yourself going through a fight like that and now I’ve done it, I’ve learnt that I can withstand it.”
